Discovering a dog-friendly Toronto
Being the nature junkie that I am, this list includes only outdoor spaces to bring your dogs, but there are a lot of great facilities around town too! Below is a list of dog-friendly places I like to go with my pooches.
5 awesome places to bring your dog:
Woodbine Beach
When it comes to best places to bring your dog in Toronto, I think Woodbine Beach takes the cake.
In the summertime, you have the off-leash dog park areas where your dogs are free to romp around and play.
In the wintertime, you have the ENTIRE beach for the dogs! Before my dogs, I never went to the beach in the wintertime, but it is really lovely-just be sure to dress warmly.
High Park
High Park is a huge green space in Toronto, where you could easily spend an entire day wandering through and taking in your surroundings.
You can walk your dog on leash through the forest paths, or let them stretch their legs at the dog park and off-leash trail.
I like the dog park especially because there are shady areas to escape the summer sun and a little kiddy pool with several bowls full of water to help the dogs to cool off.
The winter and springtime can (and will) be muddy, so be prepared to wash your pup when you come home.
Cedarvale Park
Located in North York (close to St Clair West Station), Cedarvale boasts many of the same perks as High Park: an off-leash dog park, a long woodsy trail, and a lot of green space to walk around. Many dog owners live in the area, so it’s pretty dog-friendly, as far as parks go.
Trinity Bellwoods Park
This park is great for a little stroll and a picnic, especially if you’re located closer to the downtown core.
There is a large area called the “dog bowl” where owners often let their dogs off-leash. One thing I will say is that this is not a fenced in area, so you should be careful that your doggy has good recall if you bring them here.
The dog bowl is also home to the monthly (and absolutely adorable) Pug Grumble- something you really need to check out, especially if you like pugs.
Don Valley Trail
The Don Valley Trail is a long one- 32 kilometres from the Oak Ridges Moraine down to Lake Ontario.
You can bike the trail with your pup (with lots of water breaks), or you can walk portions of it.
Some parts of the trail are more grassy and others are all smoothly paved for cyclists. If you’re looking for a nice long trail to walk with your pup, this one’s pretty great!
And that concludes my list of 5 awesome places to bring your pup! Did I miss any? Leave a comment about your favourite places and why you love taking your doggies there.
